The Effects Of Television Violence On Children
When I was very little I would watch cartoon, TV shows, whatever that was on and my parents wouldn’t worry about it. In todays time most television revolves around violence and danger.   Parents are not aware of how the violence on television can harm their child health, mind, and the way they act.   I choose this topic because television is growing more violent each day and it could affect all the children that watch TV.
“Television shows that allow the character who commits a crime to receive no punishment teaches children that it’s all right to commit a crime”. (Children and TV Violence). A child watching a crime on TV can cause the child to later on commit a crime and get arrested in the process. Television puts a false statement into a child’s mind causing violence’s that can hurt the child and the area in which the child lives in.
Television can also affect the way a child sees everything. “They can become numb to the horror of violence or gradually accept violence as a way to solve problems.” (Effects of television violence pg 1) this explains that a child that sees violence will soon or later not be affected by the horror of violence. If a child watch a TV show solving a problem by fighting, the children can pick that up and use violence to get what it wants.
The behavior of the child is also affected by television programs. “The more televised violence a child watches, the more acceptable aggressive behavior becomes for the child”. (Huesmann, Moise pg 1). The quote is saying that if a child continuous watching violence it becomes like a habit or instinct for the child. A child that becomes familiar with violence might also use it to relieve guilt or stress that the child is feeling. Violence is never a health way to solve anything.
This issue has caught my attention for a while now and I intend to dive into research about the effects of television violence on children.           I would love to know how television affects the whole mind and if it can always cause violence in children. I feel that television should tone down on some of the programs and restrict programs that children are able to watch. I’m looking forward to taking this issue further and seeing if I can stop some of the violence on television in looking forward to taking this issue further and seeing if I can stop some of the violence on television in my community.
